KALMAR RT CENTER AWARDED FIVE-YEAR ARMY CONTRACT FOR NEW MILITARY FORKLIFTS
Cibolo, TX -- The U.S. Army has chosen Kalmar RT Center LLC (KRTC) to produce state-of-the-art forklifts to replace aging equipment currently in use in Southwest Asia operations.Approximately 2,000 of the Light Capability Rough Terrain Forklifts (LCRTF) will be produced at company's headquarters in Cibolo, TX over the next five years.
Kalmar RT Center was awarded the contract March 18, 2011 from the U.S. Army Tank and Automotive Command (TACOM) for the production of the new forklifts. The LCRTF will replace an existing fleet of four- and five- ton forklifts currently in the U.S. Army and U.S. Marine Corps inventories.
The LCRTF is an interoperable companion to KRTC's Rough Terrain Cargo Handler (RTCH).KRTC is the sole source provider of the RTCH commonly known as the "workhorse" of material handling for the U.S. military.KRTC designed the compatible forklift to provide their customers with maximum savings in total ownership costs.Product verification and testing has begun and full production of the LCRTF begins in Cibolo early next year.Production of the LCRTF is expected to create at least 25 jobs.
